Shoot The Chef, Crave Sydney International Food Festival 2012

The annual Crave Sydney International Food Festival has just kicked off! Commencing on 1st October, it features the ever popular Night Noodle Markets (which we visited last year), Sugar Hit, a range of dinner events, food classes and more. There’s something for everyone and this celebration of gastronomy even features some food related events that don’t actually require eating.

Shoot The Chef is one of these events where no eating is involved. It is a competition held by The Sydney Morning Herald that invites students and professional photographers to interpret and capture how they would “shoot the chef”. The result is an exhibition of all the finalists held on the top floor of Westfield Sydney that captures the love affair between chefs, food and their manic lifestyles in the kitchen. It is a must see for all foodies who also have an appreciation for art and photography.

We were fortunate enough to attend the opening night on Wednesday where we previewed some of the amazing artworks. On top of this, some 2012 Masterchef contestants were also there to kick off the event including Audra, Amina and Julia and we were stoked to meet them.

Shoot the Chef is a rather small exhibition, cramming 22 artworks into the tiny upstairs Westfield space which is surrounded with restaurants like Xanthi and Spiedo. Check it out if you’ve got some spare time in between feasting on Crave Sydney’s multiple events during October!
