The Nighthawk Diner, World Square

We are huge fans of the food trucks that are doing the rounds through the CBD serving up gourmet “fast food” from different cuisines. One of the newer additions to the food truck club is The Nighthawk Diner, dishing up American style dishes like Philly Cheesesteak Sub sandwiches, Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese bagels and huge milkshakes! All the action at Nighthawk happens inside a shiny silver trailer, which is going to be parked at World Square until October 13 from 11am-10pm everyday, in the breezy outdoor area of World Square (in front of Cue and the staircase to Din Tai Fung).

Their menu is fairly simple but boy do they deliver! Their Philly Cheesesteak Sub comes neatly wrapped in greaseproof paper that holds together a roll bulging with sliced steak, smothered in mustard, melted cheese and slivers of onions. The strong flavours all meld together to create the perfect storm of greasy American style goodness that leaves you wanting more. Although the sub by itself is already very filling, Nighthawk serve it up with a generous amount of sides –  hand cut fried potato crisps (think Thins style), that look almost too perfect to be made by hand and an addictive potato salad too. It’s carb overload for sure, so if you want to ease up on the carbs, they also offer a side of coleslaw instead of potato salad.

We wash down our very satisfying dinner with a couple of massive milkshakes – Peanut Butter and Chocolate, and Maple Malt. Both flavour combos evoke memories of super sweet American treats and they don’t disappoint, with the Peanut Butter and Chocolate tasting like a liquid version of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. The Maple Malt is super creamy, scented with vanilla as well and is a great accompaniment to the very savoury flavours in the Philly Cheesesteak Sub and sides.

The founders of The Nighthawk Diner have spent years in hatted Sydney restaurants and travelling through North America and it really shows through their tasty menu. Their flavours are spot on – just the right amount of grease to keep you hooked without making you feel too guilty, so get in to get your fix before The Nighthawk Diner rolls out of World Square! There’s a few outdoor tables on the astroturf if you want to dine-in and enjoy the weather and longer hours of sunshine now that it’s daylight savings.

The Nighthawk Diner will be parked at World Square until 13 October 2013. Follow their social media channels to find out where they head to next!
