Three Williams, Redfern

Three Williams is one of the newest cafes to hit Sydney, and despite only opening last month, they’re definitely one to watch. We’re there at 9:30am on a Saturday but by 10-ish, it’s already busy and bustling, with a line forming by the time we leave (11-ish).

I’m quite excited to eat here having read that their kitchen is led by Tim Byran (ex-ARIA). To top it off, the cafe is big, spacious and accommodating – there is a kids area with toys and games, along with free wifi making it a great place for meetings. A quick glance at the menu shows that their items are all quite reasonably priced (average $10-$20), which is great value compared to some over the other overpriced cafes in neighbouring Surry Hills.

Spicy Smashed Beans with Avocado on Toast with Two Poached Eggs-  $16

We grab a whole bunch of dishes today with the spicy smashed beans kickstarting the meal. The beans aren’t that spicy but go very well with the avocado and lime wedge. Add $3 and they’ll even throw in two poached eggs which ooze out runny yolk, perfect for dipping the bread in.

Poached Eggs, Marinated Bull Horn Peppers, Serrano Ham, Feta and Dukka on Toast – $16

Next is a more Mediterranean inspired dish with peppers, ham and feta. It’s an unique, lighter combination you wouldn’t expect from a brunch menu.

The Merchant (Chilli Fried Egg, Crispy Bacon, Pickled Slaw and Ranch Dressing on a Brioche Bun) – $12

The Merchant is raved on about by others on the table and after taking a bite, I know exactly why. The brioche is soft and heavenly, and when combined with an oozing fried egg and bacon, you can’t really go wrong!

Beer Battered Chips with House Aioli – $6

Fish Croquettes with Lemon and Aioli – $3 each

Aside from the breakfast items, there’s some side dishes as well which we had to try. First up were the chips which were one of the BEST chips I’ve had, even rivalling my previous chips experience at The Botanist. These chips are triple-cooked, super crispy and surprisingly not oily. Complimented by some garlicky aioli, our bowl of chips disappears very quickly. Then there’s also the crispy fish croquettes which are served up in an egg carton, with a warm mushy centre. These are tasty small nibbles that are also easily finished.

Crunchy Brioche French Toast, Blueberries, Yoghurt, Roasted Pecans and Maple Syrup – $14

Last but not least is the french toast which is artfully presented with a range of ingredients and textures. It’s very different from other french toasts that I’ve had before. The brioche is sweet (perfect for dessert) accompanied by creamy vanilla yoghurt and maple syrup. There’s roasted pecans to provide some crunch and blueberries that give bursts of flavour.

To sum up my visit, Three Williams is amazing. It’s tasty, good value, and there’s lots of parking as well as an added bonus. It’s one of my new favourite cafes and I’ll definitely be sure to pay another visit here in the near future.
