Brewtown Newtown, Newtown

I’ve heard a lot about Brewtown Newtown, especially the variety of cronuts which they are known for. We tried visiting last month with a large group of 7 and were told there was a one hour wait, so we left, but I decided to come back another time in a smaller group. This time just 2 of us visited at 1pm on a Sunday and there was still a half hour wait but it wasn’t too bad as we stood outside soaking up the sunshine.

Brewtown is on the bottom floor of what looks like a revamped warehouse, with the top floor home to O’Connell Street Merchants (same company I believe). Most of the seating inside is made for small groups of 2 and 4, with two larger communal tables towards the front.

Breakfast juice of kale, apple, celery and ginger – $6

To kickstart our meal we grabbed the breakfast juice which consisted of kale, apple, celery and ginger. It contained a nice balance – prominent sweet apples with a hit of ginger, and no flavour was particularly overpowering.

Corned beef hash with garden peas, poached egg and parmesan crumbs $15

My friend got the corned beef hash off the breakfast menu which was very tasty, with crispy textures topped off with two poached eggs. I loved this dish, especially since my friend couldn’t finish it so I got to help out!

Squid ink linguine, garlic chilli prawns, kale and parmesan $18.5

I opted for the squid ink linguine off the lunch menu which contained fresh chilli, giving it a spicy hit. It would have been nice if there was a bit of sauce on the plate as the linguine was a bit dry, but otherwise the cheese and prawns (5 in total) were very tasty. I personally found the portion a bit small (although it is fair for the affordable price tag), although my friend couldn’t finish their meal so maybe I just eat a lot hehe.

Despite a long wait for a table, the food was served quite promptly with friendly waitstaff and the dishes were tasty as well! When we left by 2:30pm, there was no line anymore so if you hate waiting, try coming first thing in the morning or wait until after the lunch rush. The breakfast menu is all day, as are the cronuts which are constantly pumped out so you won’t miss out on anything 🙂
