The Tuckshop, Glenhaven

The crew at The Tuckshop in suburban Glenhaven sure know how to draw a crowd – when we drop in on a Sunday afternoon it was packed to the rafters and the takeaway lunch queues were out the door.

Luckily our friend had arrived earlier and scored a table outside for us. The Tuckshop keeps things simple on its cheeky menu, dishing up diner classics like milkshakes and burgers alongside Australian brunch faves like bacon and egg rolls with Single Origin Roasters coffees.

We went straight for the burgers on the menu. The food still took awhile to come out, but it was worth the wait – my friend’s “The Cheesy” double burger was a hit, with two juicy patties sandwiched between soft buns.

The Cheesy Burger, $12 (+$3 for double)

I also enjoyed my aptly named Down South Burger, which has some crispy Southern Fried Chicken as the star, paired with a light corn and avocado salsa, coleslaw and topped off with “Frank’s Hot Sauce” (which isn’t that hot). The soft buns make the burgers easier to handle, but all the burgers come out in takeaway boxes anyway, so I don’t feel too bad when I do get sauce/fillings falling out of my burger as I chomp away messily. The shoestring fries are pretty decent too especially with the seasoning on top, though my serving could have done with a bit more paprika sprinkled on top.

Down South Burger, $15

If you’re in the Hills and looking for a decent burger and fries combo, look no further than The Tuckshop – but be prepared to face the crowds!
