The aptly named Cloud 9 Chocolate Cafe really does take chocolate loving to the next level, with a smorgasbord of delectable options to satisfy your sweet tooth. It may look a bit like a froyo parlour on first impression, but there’s nothing remotely healthy about what’s on offer here – think gelato sliders, molten lava cakes, waffles, fondue…the list goes on.
Today, we feel like a Gelato Slider which features a generous scoop of creamy Pistachio White Choc Swirl gelato, sandwiched between a Pecan & Maple Cookie on the bottom and a White Choc Macadamia Cookie on the top. You can also choose to have your gelato scoop sandwiched between a chocolate brownie or brioche bun, but we thought the sound of 2 different cookie flavours was much more awesome. We loved the glorious flavours in the gelato, but were a bit disappointed that the cookies hardened from the coldness of the gelato, although they had looked promisingly chewy in the display. I enjoyed the nutty, caramel notes of the Pecan & Maple Cookie but just wish it could’ve stayed soft as part of the slider!

The real revelation of the visit was the epic Flourless Chocolate Cake, which didn’t look that impressive at first glance but was amazingly light and airy, with layers of fluffy chocolate meringue and a smooth chocolate mousse folded in between the layers. I would come back just for this divine treat!

Newtown’s new chocolate cafe is a welcome addition to King Street and is just the spot to grab a sweet treat after a meal or for afternoon tea if you’re a chocolate lover in the area.
