If you’re looking for an extra early weekend breakfast in Strathfield, look no further than Buttermelt Cafe which opens its doors at 8am for the early birds. Their pared back industrial chic decor matches their simple breakfast menu, which is short and sweet, but peppered with on trend dishes like brioche french toast as well as more adventurous items like their Taro Latte.
We tried the Taro Latte and despite its relatively artificial looking purple colour, it was actually quite a comforting drink with subtle undertones of creamy taro in the milk. The seasonal “Steadfast” coffee is sourced from Melbourne and was nice and smooth in both the Cappuccino and the Mocha we got.

Onto food, I chose the Bacon & Egg, which featured a slightly runny free range egg sunny side up on streaky bacon and their special tomato relish sauce on a crusty bun. It was nothing remarkable, but hit the spot after a big night out.

My friend went for the more gourmet Wild Mushroom Bruschetta, which showcased a mound of sauteed mushrooms on organic sourdough and was topped with a poached egg and some shaved parmesan cheese. I had some serious food envy after trying out the delicious sauteed mushrooms.

The boy opted for the Salmon Benedict Danish, which was actually served on slices of crusty sourdough instead of a danish as we were expecting from the name. The 2 poached eggs were done well and the homemade hollandaise was tangy and refreshing with the salty ribbons of fresh smoked salmon and leafy greens.

Buttermelt Cafe captures the essence of current cafe trends in Sydney with a dash of Asian fusion flavour in its drinks menu and looks like its proving to be a hit with the locals too with their simple yet well executed breakfast fare.
