Won San, Eastwood

Chinese food cooked by Koreans is one of my favourite type of foods. As strange as that sounds, there are a small number of Korean restaurants which cook Chinese dishes with Korean flavours and techniques, and the end result is quite a delicious combination of cultures. Won San (previously known as Arisana) is located on the bustling Rowe St of Eastwood and is one of two Korean/Chinese restaurants in the area. It is quite large (two storeys) and tonight we’re ordering a mix of dishes to share between the four of us.

Taste of Shanghai, Eastwood

Taste of Shanghai is one of the better Shanghainese restaurants in the Eastwood area; since opening several years ago it has constantly been busy and serves up delicious food. Whenever I get a dumpling or xiaolongbao (steamed pork dumpling) craving, Taste of Shanghai is where I go. Upon walking past it recently, I noticed posters promoting four different xiaolongbao variations. I can’t ever resist new and interesting food, so I was definitely coming back to try it out.

Crazy Wings, Eastwood

In the last month, I mentioned that Eastwood had seen three new restaurants hit the dining scene including Pho Gia Hoi. One of them includes Crazy Wings which has two other branches at Chinatown and Chatswood. The Eastwood branch is a short walk from the train station and local car park and is small with wooden furnishings. It features a range of BBQ skewers and small nibbles which are perfect for sharing. Since its opening, delicious BBQ smells have wafted out and there has always been a queue outside, so I thought that I’d check it out.

Pho Gia Hoi, Eastwood

Eastwood has a rather high turnover of restaurants with the good ones staying around for many years and the bad ones changing every couple of months. In the last week, three new restaurants have opened including Pho Gia Hoi which is now the second Vietnamese restaurant to enter Eastwood’s dining scene. I had been craving Pho ever since my trip to Cabramatta when I missed out on eating it, so I couldn’t wait to eat here!

Fusion Cafe, Eastwood

Within the postcode of 2122, there are now two restaurants by the name of ‘Fusion Cafe’; one in Eastwood and one in Marsfield (yep, these adjacent suburbs share the same postcode). It’s a bit confusing since they’re not the same restaurant but the one in Eastwood is the new one which opened late last year. When I walked past it last year, there were crowds outside so I thought I’d check it out.
