Celebrating a friend’s milestone 25th birthday, we decided to go with somewhere classy but still friendly for a crowd. So we ended up at Treehouse on a Saturday night to find a wide variety of diners enjoying a meal, in contrast to the usual office worker crowd on weekdays.

William Blue Dining, North Sydney

William Blue at North Sydney is a Hospitality Management college training the next generation of hospitality staff and chefs. As part of their studies, they run William Blue Dining, a restaurant which lets the students put their skills to the test and gain experience in a real restaurant environment.

Big Stone, North Sydney

I love Japanese and Spanish food equally with a passion, but it’s easy for restaurants to get a bit muddled when it comes to fusion, especially since Japanese/Spanish cuisines are quite different. I’ve had some bad experiences with fusion cuisine but I enjoyed Big Stone’s take on it, even though there wasn’t a lot of actual fusing going on. This little restaurant is in North Sydney, tucked away from the main food courts so you really need to be in the loop to find it.
