It’s been a while since I’ve been down to Casa di Nico, but we heard that they have relaunched their menu recently and went down to have a look to see what’s changed.
Icebergs Dining Room and Bar is the iconic restaurant perched on top of the cliffs above the famous Bondi Icebergs swimming pool and it has been on my list to visit for a while. The right occasion came up recently and even though it was in winter, we decided to head over to try it out. As I had expected, the upscale restaurant is elegantly decked out but still has a relaxed vibe as befits its beachside location. The mood lighting makes it an ideal spot for a date, combined with the panoramic views of the ocean and beach from the restaurant which are beautiful even at night, but I imagine it would be an even more stunning backdrop for a meal in summer.
It seems as though the worst kept secret in Lane Cove at the moment is Via Napoli, the buzzing authentic pizzeria serving up Naples style pizza that opened its doors late last year. I first noticed Via Napoli when I drove past on a Sunday night and saw that it was still absolutely packed even though it was quite late. It wasn’t a one-off either – pretty much every other time I’ve driven past Via Napoli it has been packed to the rafters no matter what time of the day it is. Obviously I was intrigued and after a quick Google search to see what all the fuss was about, I booked a table with a group of my friends to try out their metre long pizzas for my birthday dinner.
This cosy little pizza bar had caught my eye the last time I was in the Kings Cross area because it was packed out with patrons and smelled divine. So when I headed back to Bayswater Road one evening, I decided to see for myself if the pizza tasted as good as it had smelt the other night. This authentic Italian eatery has very limited seating as most of its space is taken up by the open kitchen – there’s about room for 4 couples inside and a few more tables outside but as we had come early at 6pm on a Tuesday night we were able to nab the last table inside.
The other week, I was fortunate enough to be invited to a seasonal masterclass hosted by Crust Pizza. I’ve always been a fan of Crust Pizza as their flavours are a bit more gourmet, with my favourites including the Peking Duck and the Moroccan Lamb. Tonight, head chef Peter Augoustis is leading the masterclass and showing us how to make their new Heirloom Tomato Upper Crust pizza which comes out in mid-October.
