Manpuku, Kingsford

In my uni days, I used to spend a lot of lunchtimes around Kingsford at all the little restaurants on Anzac Parade – but this time visiting as a non-student, I was quite amazed at how much the restaurant offerings in the area have changed in terms of variety. One of the more recent additions is Manpuku, a ramen joint which is quite busy on a Friday night.

Menya Oiden, Sydney

There are a lot of Japanese canteen-style restaurants popping up in Sydney including Hana Hana, Marukame Udon and Tenkomori, just to name a few. I love how they’re all affordable and quick which is perfect if you’re short on change or just need a meal to go. As a huge rice lover, I’ve been meaning to go to Menya Oiden many years ago ever since it opened but somehow just never managed to, until today. Yes!

Yayoi, Circular Quay

The Wagamama at Circular Quay has vacated its premises and in its place is a new branch of the Japanese chain called Yayoi which serves up “teishoku” meals a.k.a. meal sets. The menu is quite extensive and the photos make everything look pretty appealing.

Toriciya, Cammeray

Nestled away from the main strip of Cammeray’s shops is a little Japanese eatery by the name of Toriciya. Although it’s off the beaten track, Toriciya seems to have built up quite a following, as the small space eventually gets packed out on a Wednesday night.
