The Ternary, Hotel Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour

I’ve walked through Darling Harbour many times and have always noticed the big Novotel Hotel towering behind Harbourside Shopping Centre, but have never really thought of it as a dining destination. So when we were asked to check out their new restaurant, I was a bit sceptical about whether it would just be another hotel restaurant, or whether it would be able to stand on its own two feet.

Ramen O-San, Haymarket

I love a good bowl of ramen and judging by the lines outside popular ramen joints in town, so does the rest of Sydney. One of the newer players is Ramen O-San, which has just opened up an outlet in the heart of Chinatown, hidden in the underground Dixon House Food Court. It’s nothing flash, but they serve up a very good value bowl of Tonkotsu Ramen which is under $10 and features a thick, flavoursome pork bone broth as its base.

Manpuku, Kingsford

In my uni days, I used to spend a lot of lunchtimes around Kingsford at all the little restaurants on Anzac Parade – but this time visiting as a non-student, I was quite amazed at how much the restaurant offerings in the area have changed in terms of variety. One of the more recent additions is Manpuku, a ramen joint which is quite busy on a Friday night.

Menya Oiden, Sydney

There are a lot of Japanese canteen-style restaurants popping up in Sydney including Hana Hana, Marukame Udon and Tenkomori, just to name a few. I love how they’re all affordable and quick which is perfect if you’re short on change or just need a meal to go. As a huge rice lover, I’ve been meaning to go to Menya Oiden many years ago ever since it opened but somehow just never managed to, until today. Yes!
