Rising Sun Workshop, Newtown

Tucked away into a laneway in Newtown off the main drag is the bustling Rising Sun Workshop, a motorcycle workshop which shares its airy warehouse space with a cafe that has some Japanese influences on its menu.

We drop by for brunch, when their intriguing Breakfast Ramen is still available. The silky buttered toast and bone broth sets the scene for an alternative kind of breakfast, with springy ramen noodles, umami coming in from the grilled tomato and delicious bacon thrown in the mix with a soft boiled egg. A perfect, savoury way to start a cool morning day – because it’s never too early for ramen!

Breakfast Ramen, $17

We also tried their Bloody Sunrise, featuring some Rodriguez black pudding, a tasty green dragon salsa with aioli, interesting charcoal bread, fried egg and red peppers for a more Western style breakfast option with some twists.

Bloody Sunrise, $17

The friendly service and creative (if not particularly extensive) menu at Rising Sun Workshop makes it a destination for those who enjoy something a bit different first thing in the morning – paired with smooth coffees from their baristas, it’s a refreshing spot to catch up with friends.

Cappuccinos, $4.50
