Moorish Blue, McMahons Point

North African food is one of the less common types of cuisine found in Sydney, so when the opportunity arose to give it a go, my foodie senses couldn’t say no. Moorish Blue is located at McMahons Point, just a few blocks from the iconic Blues Point, with access to views of the stunning Harbour Bridge. The restaurant is decorated in hues of blue and is just as stunning as the harbour views – I feel like I’ve walked onto an interior design shoot characterised by the high ceilings, sandy coloured walls and elegant furnishings.

Subsolo Spanish Restaurant and Bar, Sydney

I’ve always been curious about how the food is at Subsolo, which is just around the corner from my office and serves up Spanish dishes (one of my fave cuisines). Part of the curiosity stems from the fact that I have never been able to work out the vibe of the place as it’s in a basement and you can’t see much from it’s small street entrance. But if you venture down those steps, you’ll find yourself in an elegant, yet somewhat sensual restaurant that fits the Spanish theme with moody lighting, plush furniture and exotic drapings for their booths up the back.

Downstairs Restaurant, Darlinghurst

The owners of The Hazy Rose cocktail bar have recently opened a new restaurant situated underneath, appropriately calling it Downstairs Restaurant, offering modern British fare. It’s even decked out in theme, from the bowler hat lamp shades to seating booths with curtains (like those on UK trains) to give it a British feel.

The Ternary, Hotel Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour

I’ve walked through Darling Harbour many times and have always noticed the big Novotel Hotel towering behind Harbourside Shopping Centre, but have never really thought of it as a dining destination. So when we were asked to check out their new restaurant, I was a bit sceptical about whether it would just be another hotel restaurant, or whether it would be able to stand on its own two feet.
