Louisiane, Lane Cove

Louisiane is the new cafe, bar and grill that has taken over the former Lodge Tapas space in the heart of Lane Cove, with friendly service and a revamped menu with more of a focus on quality steaks and American style burgers than its predecessor.

We started off our dinner here with some delicious Wild Mushroom Arancini, perfectly crumbed balls of wild mushroom risotto filling elevated with fragrant white truffle oil and garlicky aioli sauce on the side.

With the cool weather, we were in the mood for some grilled steak – first up was the tender Beef Fillet wrapped with some prosciutto and topped off with roasted black garlic butter for something a bit different. Each of the steaks comes with the choice of one side and we went for the Louisiane Smoked Paprika Mac ‘n Cheese which was a very generously sized portion of some cheesy goodness.

For our second steak, we went with the Grass Fed Rib Eye Steak and were not disappointed with the juicy meat, served with a citrus butter and amped up with their flavoursome wild mushroom sauce. We paired this steak with the creamy Garlic Mash Potatoes on the side to add to the comfort food factor.

We turned our steaks into “surf and turfs” by adding a full Lobster Tail to share on the side and were glad we did – the succulent lobster is a luxe way to round out the meal and not an option often seen on surf and turf menus.

Full Lobster Tail, $20

We were also impressed by the range of interesting cocktails on the drinks menu at Louisiane – we enjoyed the Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto which fuses Tanqueray gin with yuzu sake, lemon juice and hints of vanilla for a very refreshing cocktail. Their Morning Glory juice blend was also a hit, with a blend of watermelon, pineapple, orange and lychee for a tropical twist.

Louisiane is a hidden gem in Lane Cove which has only recently opened for dinner, in addition to their busy daytime cafe offering. They do casual dining with flair, focusing on quality ingredients in relaxed, contemporary surrounds and are worth a visit if you’re in the neighbourhood.
