Via Napoli Pizzeria, Lane Cove

It seems as though the worst kept secret in Lane Cove at the moment is Via Napoli, the buzzing authentic pizzeria serving up Naples style pizza that opened its doors late last year.  I first noticed Via Napoli when I drove past on a Sunday night and saw that it was still absolutely packed even though it was quite late. It wasn’t a one-off either – pretty much every other time I’ve driven past Via Napoli it has been packed to the rafters no matter what time of the day it is. Obviously I was intrigued and after a quick Google search to see what all the fuss was about, I booked a table with a group of my friends to try out their metre long pizzas for my birthday dinner.

Out of Italy, Rushcutters Bay

This cosy little pizza bar had caught my eye the last time I was in the Kings Cross area because it was packed out with patrons and smelled divine. So when I headed back to Bayswater Road one evening, I decided to see for myself if the pizza tasted as good as it had smelt the other night. This authentic Italian eatery has very limited seating as most of its space is taken up by the open kitchen – there’s about room for 4 couples inside and a few more tables outside but as we had come early at 6pm on a Tuesday night we were able to nab the last table inside.

Helm Bar, Darling Harbour

Helm Bar is one of those spots which sees a lot of foot traffic go past it thanks to its convenient location sandwiched between the Pyrmont Bridge and Sydney Aquarium, right next to the waterfront at Darling Harbour. If you venture upstairs at Helm Bar, you will find a bar/restaurant which plays up its nautical theme and location with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating options. This is great for basking in the fresh sea breeze and sunshine if the weather permits, like the one sunny Saturday morning we visited to take part in a Bloggers Pizza Making Competition run by Wasamedia PR and Helm Bar. The grand prize? The winning creation goes on the menu at Helm Bar for 3 months and is named after the blog who created it!

Janus, Darling Quarter

Janus has since rebranded as Vesta Italian

I really like how they’ve revamped Darling Harbour near Tumbalong Park breathing life into an area that used to be served by a lone McDonald’s. Janus is one of the many new sleek restaurants that line the promenade at Darling Quarter, but due to the lack of prominent signage, it is quite easy to miss it. You’ll find it nestled on the corner next to Braza, easily accessible from the main street if you cross the road from Sussex Street.

Winnies, Queenstown, New Zealand

Prior to landing in Queenstown, our group went on a mad hunt to find some good food recommendations. My friend read online that one of the great restaurants we needed to check out was Winnies, a pub-style restaurant known for its pizzas.
