Is it a bird? Or a plane? No, it’s Superman…or one of his many superhero friends riding a Vespa and holding a sandwich! The Sandwich Hero is one of the most interesting food services to shake up Sydney, offering sandwich deliveries from superheroes to the many CBD offices throughout Sydney.
Whilst it’s still new, they only deliver on Tuesdays with a limited menu of sandwiches only. These are all priced at $9.95 each and are sourced from an anonymous supplier (superheroes don’t reveal their secrets). There’s a basic range of chicken, beef, pork, salmon and vegetarian options on both brown and white bread.
Iron Chook on Brown Vienna – Chicken Schnitzel, Fresh Tomato, Eggplant & Mayo
Spider Pork on Brown Vienna – Pork Sausage, Roasted Vegetables & Lettuce
I decided to give The Sandwich Hero a go and got my delivery from Superman. The sandwiches contain some decent fillings – the chicken schnitzel contains eggplant which provides a big burst of flavour, and the pork has roasted vegetables which are well seasoned. However the bread is much too thick and the crust is a bit hard. It’s quite boring so instead I find myself picking away at the fillings.
Only time will tell whether the good guys will prevail this time. It’s a unique service which will appeal to many, but it’s also not hard to just go buy your own sandwich – and to be honest, it’s quite easy to get a high quality one for less than $9.95. On the upside, The Sandwich Hero provides convenience to those who just don’t have the time, but more importantly a smile as we reminisce our childhood days.
Visit The Sandwich Hero website to place your order. Delivery is only on Tuesdays (at the time of writing).
