Sugar Rush at the Intercontinental Hotel, Circular Quay

It’s a bit of an annual tradition for us to hit up the dessert offerings at Good Food Month and this year, we kicked off our Good Food Month adventures at the InterContinental Hotel Sydney’s Sugar Rush.

The Sugar Rush is on in The Cortile, the plush lounge on the ground floor of the hotel which features deep leather seats and cosy booths. When it comes out, it’s a whimsical delight with multiple layers starting with a smooth, tangy passionfruit curd, contrasted with a sweet rhubarb and strawberry compote, an intriguing cardomom crumble, French meringue, passionfruit souffle and a large tuft of fairy floss to top it all off. The dessert is pretty enough on its own, but it’s served with a plastic dropper on the side filled with sticky sweet cassis syrup, which you drizzle over the fairy floss to  make it “dissolve”.

The dessert is paired with a sweet Yalumba Botrytis Semillon, which has toffee and caramel flavours, to offset all the fruity notes of the dessert itself. The Sugar Rush is on every day in October from 4pm – 11pm, so treat yourself to a trip down memory lane with a grown up’s take on a childhood favourite.

If you fancy something a bit more savoury for an after dinner treat, head on up to the Supper Club on the top floor of the InterContinental Hotel to try their “For the Love of Wine and Cheese” offering (available during October only for Good Food Month) which pairs a glass of Yalumba Grenache and a platter of four cheeses, complete with sweeping, panoramic views of Sydney harbour, including uninterrupted views of the illuminated Bridge and Opera House by night.

For the Love of Wine and Cheese, $45 per person
