There’s been a move away from the standard fast food outlets in food courts, towards healthy, gourmet takeaway options these days. One of the familiar names in this movement which is popping up quite often across Sydney is Soul Origin, which serves up an array of delicious (yet still healthy) salads, sandwiches and olive oil paninis.
I dropped by one of the Soul Origin outlets close to my office for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the large range of options on offer – a smorgasbord of colourful salads and all sorts of fillings for their sandwiches and olive oil paninis.
My friend and I ended up getting a large salad with 2 choices, half Mediterranean with baked Ricotta Omelette and Chicken & Smokey Chorizo for some extra protein, as well as a Soul Origin Beef Baguette to share. I loved the Soul Origin Beef Baguette, which featured a much thinner baguette than I’ve had elsewhere that allows you to enjoy the tasty beef filling without too much bread getting in the way. The marinated beef is tender and is packed full of flavour, thanks to the caramelised onions and hint of chilli.

The Baked Ricotta Omelette in the Mediterranean salad was interesting, providing a salty hit to the otherwise light mix of baby spinach, sweet potato, beetroot, grilled mushrooms, walnuts and sundried tomatoes, drizzled with a honey balsamic dressing. We paired the Chicken & Smokey Chorizo half of the salad with a lime mayo dressing, which was delicious and went well with the mix of leafy greens, cucumber, red onions, tomato (fresh and sundried).
Eating on the run doesn’t always mean that you have to eat junk, especially when the variety of choice at Soul Origin shows that the healthy options can be still packed full of flavour, so you don’t have to compromise on anything. I’ll be back to try more of the many vibrant salads and sandwiches on offer at the bustling Soul Origin stores.
