Uliveto Cafe, Potts Point

The cafe scene in Potts Point has definitely stayed bustling despite the nightlife suffering of late and Uliveto Cafe is no exception, full of hungry brunchers on the Sunday morning we drop by. It’s not the easiest cafe to find, as there’s no clear signage from the footpath, but it is nestled underneath the Crescent complex on Bayswater Road, right across from World Bar and Crane Bar. There’s plenty of outdoor courtyard seating or some seats inside the minimalist, narrow space that their busy kitchen operates out of.

We started off with our usual coffee order (large cappuccino for him and a mocha for me) and we were pleasantly surprised to find our coffees adorned with some elaborate latte art – mine was a cute kitty, while the boy’s coffee had some pretty flowers on it. Nice touch from the barista.

Onto the food, we couldn’t go past their Poached Lobster Roll from the specials board, which is part of their all day dining selection and it didn’t disappoint, with a soft bun encasing chunks of juicy poached lobster, coated in a light mayo and topped with dill to cut through the creaminess, and some crispy french fries on the side sprinkled with smoked paprika. It was delicious – our only complaint is that we wanted more of that poached lobster!

We also tried their Spanish Style Baked Eggs from their standard breakfast menu, which came out piping hot, served with chunks of chorizo and a saucy mix of tomato, capsicum and onion, seasoned well with garlic and spices. We found that the consistency of the filling wasn’t as thick as we were used to, but the slices of crusty bread on the side did the job in letting us mop up all the sauce.

Uliveto’s serves up a versatile and surprisingly affordable menu featuring both all day breakfast and all day dining options – considering the price of brunching in Sydney these days, it’s refreshing to see an inner city cafe that delivers on solid dishes that don’t break the bank.
