Cavalier Specialty Coffee, St Leonards

We have been fans of the beautifully plated up food and silky smooth coffee at Cavalier Specialty Coffee since they first opened up about a year ago and became our favourite local with their cosy Scandi-chic decor. While their food menu isn’t particularly extensive, everything they bring out is impeccably presented – case in point was their entree special, a chewy Italian cheese which had been lightly grilled and came out with a delicate wreath of herbs and sweet cherry tomatoes that gave it just enough of a flavour pop to keep things interesting.

Next we moved onto one of their mainstays, the Benedict featuring Black Forest Gypsy Ham and a delicious hollandaise drizzled on top of the poached eggs. The Benedict came with a twist in the form of soft challah bread (a Jewish variant of egg bread) and seeded mustard on the side for an interesting touch.

We finished our brunch on a sweet note, indulging in the gorgeous Tiramisu French Toast which tasted as delectable as it looked. Fluffy layers of mascarpone, chocolate and dulce de leche (one of our all time favourites) melded together with subtly flavoured coffee cream and rich brioche, to create a dessert to die for.

There’s not a lot of seating available at Cavalier Specialty Espresso, but their friendly service, brilliant coffee (which is made with creamy jersey milk) and well-executed dishes mean that it’s worth the wait, especially if you’re looking for some food that tastes as good as it looks.
