The Greens, North Sydney

Lawn bowls clubs all across Sydney are definitely going through a rejuvenation as the next generation gets into the barefoot bowls with booze, but what we like about The Greens in North Sydney is that it has also become a decent brunch destination on the weekends with the spacious seating arrangements working especially well for group brunch catch ups.

We got together with some friends and made a booking at The Greens for a Saturday morning to soak up some of the sunshine coming through their glass windows into their airy, contemporary interior seating area. We enjoyed the options on their curated breakfast menu (though we spotted others ordering items off their lunch menu as well). There’s no issues with split bills here, as everyone goes up to the barista station to order their own coffees and breakfast selection – just remember to give them your table number.

Potato Gems, $5

When I spotted the potato gems as one of the sides on offer, the little kid in me couldn’t resist getting them with the Warm Croissant which was served with a generous amount of smoked ocean trout, avocado, dill and creme fraiche.

Warm Croissant, $18

It was definitely a larger serving than I was expecting and I struggled to finish it on my own, especially since I had gone ahead to order the potato gems side and the smoked ocean trout chunks ended up being quite salty. That said, no regrets with ordering the crunchy potato gems on the side as they came with a garlicky aioli that hit the spot.

The only potential wrinkle in visiting The Greens as a local is that you may be asked to sign up as a member of the North Sydney Leagues Club that the lawn bowls club is affiliated with if you live within a 5 km radius, but otherwise The Greens ticks our boxes as a laidback spot in the area for a casual group brunch or lunch if you plan on staying for some barefoot bowls.
