Vic’s Meat Market, Pyrmont

We’ve been fans of the premium quality meat from Vic’s Meat Market for a while now (ironically available from their outlet at the Sydney Fish Market) and were happy to hear that their Smokehouse & Grill is now open for dinner from Thursdays through to Saturdays, dishing up a gourmet feed in a casual environment.

As you’d expect, there’s plenty of smoked meats, grilled steaks and burgers on the menu and we decided to go with the Meat Platter which showcases 400g of their excellent meats – from their delicious Smoked Beef Brisket which went well with their tangy jerk sauce to their melt-in-your-mouth Beef Short Rib, which fell right off the bone as we cut into it.

The platter also came with two of their house sides – we picked the tasty House Smoked Potato Salad and the Tangy Slaw with zingy mustard and shallots to cut through the rich flavours of the meats.  For something slightly more gourmet, you can’t go past their Smoked Portobello Mushrooms from their separate smokehouse menu to balance out all the buttery flavours.

We also tucked into their Wagyu Cheeseburger, which featured a medium-rare wagyu beef patty, onion, mustard and pickles for a satisfying feed. We loved the Mac & Cheese Fries from the “snacks” menu that complemented the burgers – the “fries” were actually shaped like croquettes with a crumbed exterior, with an on point mac & cheese filling and addictive aioli that made every mouthful pop with flavour.

We were impressed by the calibre of the dishes being served up by Vic’s Meat Market for their dinner menu. The Smokehouse & Grill have kept their casual, laidback vibe in the restaurant, but their kitchen has stepped up to smoke or grill their premium meats to perfection to showcase the rich, buttery flavours in the meat to their maximum potential. For the quality of the dishes on offer, we found the price point of most of the dishes on the menu to be fairly reasonable for Sydney and will be back next time we have a steak or short rib craving.
