The Incinerator Cafe, Willoughby

The Incinerator Cafe has sprung up next to the Willoughby Leisure Centre, offering casual outdoor dining or indoor dining in a modern rustic interior space where the open kitchen is housed, under a large Scandinavian inspired tree branch hanging overhead with glass baubles for added ambience.

It was a warm day when we visited, so we decided to sit inside with the aircon and enjoyed a nice affogato to cool down too, before tucking into a delicious Crispy Fried Salt and Pepper Soft Shell Crab dish with an artful mound of pea tendrils drizzled with sesame dressing on top. There was a generous amount of the crunchy crab morsels which we used to mop up the addictive sriracha aioli.

Our other savoury dish was the Chargrilled Beef Sandwich served with rocket, BBQ sauce and some caramelised onion on white sourdough bread, with some crinkle cut chips on the side. The beef was tender and covered with a good amount of the BBQ sauce for a flavourful dish.

We liked the laidback vibe of The Incinerator Cafe which feels almost like a cabin in the woods. We were impressed by the quality of the savouries on offer – ranging from something a bit more sophisticated like the soft shell crab, to simple dishes like the sandwiches. There’s something for everyone at this lower North Shore cafe which is slightly off the beaten path.
