The Choc Pot, Chatswood

We’ve been big fans of the delectable chocolate treats on offer at The Choc Pot since they opened up at Burwood. So we were pretty pleased to hear that they would be opening up another store at the shiny new food court above Chatswood station, The District, which is now well-known as the home of the much hyped Tim Ho Wan.

The Choc Pot continues its celebration of chocolate with a fun selection of rich desserts and matching teas, all in the surrounds of a more spacious store than their Burwood outlet with plentiful pops of bright yellow in the decor and an open kitchen so you can watch the dessert chefs hard at work.

Japanese Cherry Green Tea, $5 and White Rose Tea, $5

We started off by pairing The Secret Garden dessert with the Japanese Cherry Green Tea. Not only is it pretty to look at, but I also adored the layered flavour effect between the dark and white Callebaut chocolate, with a smattering of chocolate balls, crunchy cornflakes and topped off with a fresh strawberry. I dug through it all with my spoon and thoroughly enjoyed the smoothness of the chocolate which was elevated by the textural crunch of the top layer. The fragrant green tea was a great partner for the dessert, as it balanced out all the sweetness.

The Secret Garden, $12

The boy ordered the Chocolate Risotto, which tasted more like a warm chocolate rice pudding with a topping of creamy vanilla bean ice cream and also featured those delicious little chocolate balls (think mini Maltesers). It was a bit heavier than the other desserts on the menu, but that makes it a nice option for a winter dessert for the more adventurous diners. We ordered the White Rose tea with this, and enjoyed the slight scent of rose petals as you swirl it around your mouth.

Chocolate Risotto, $14

We continue to adore The Choc Pot, which consistently serves up fantastic, innovative desserts and has become a serious homegrown competitor to the other chocolate cafe chains in town. The matching teas with their rich desserts provide the perfect ending to every dining adventure and we are glad they’re now a bit closer to home so we can drop in for after dinner treats more regularly now!
