The Stoned Crow is a Crows Nest institution and has been around for as long as I can remember – now they’ve opened up a new outpost at Broadway, right in student central between UTS and Sydney Uni. The Broadway bar has a contemporary fitout with industrial touches in its hanging pendant lighting and plenty of high bar table seating.
We road tested their gastropub menu with a selection of their highlights – starting with their delicious 3 Cheese Arancini Balls which were lightly crumbed and went perfectly with the smoky chilli mayo. Their Home-made Pork and Beef Meatballs were also a treat – they were hearty, generously sized and very saucy.

Then we moved onto the more substantial fare on the menu, with a mix of burgers – a classic Cheeseburger and a more appetising Grilled Chilli Chicken Burger, which ended up being quite a hit. They were both messy to eat though, but that’s to be expected with any burger. We were won over by the delicious Crispy Peking Duck Pizza which combines two of our favourite things and also pleasantly surprised by the Braised Beef Cheek Open Pie, which featured tender, flavoursome beef cheek nestled in a bed of fluffy pastry.

For dessert, we had some delectable Triple Chocolate Brownie Swirls, which featured plenty of liquid chocolate folded in among the thick pastry strips to keep all the chocolate lovers satisfied.

The cocktails were also top notch here, with the very refreshing Vera Green providing a light accompaniment to the gastropub fare, blending Beefeater gin, freshly juiced cucumber, limoncello and aloe vera, just to trick yourself into thinking it’s slightly healthier than your average cocktail. My friend also enjoyed the New Jersey Moonshine, which is a stronger cocktail featuring Lairds Applejack, fireball whisky, bitters and apple, which had a bit of a cinnamon kick.

The Stoned Crow’s new outpost at Broadway is a solid addition to the city dining scene and will be welcomed by uni students who will enjoy their reasonably priced gastropub dishes in a moodily lit, contemporary bar.
