Bangbang, Surry Hills

Bangbang Café (formerly Bang Bang Espresso) has shed its former life from the DJ inspired café to a new focus quality burgers and cooking all food using quality produce from scratch. We arrived one bright morning coming up the hill of Reservoir Street, slightly sweaty and happy to find a bright welcoming café amongst the terraces of Surry Hills.

Arriving at brunch, we wanted to sample their all day breakfast menu and also their famous burgers. So we started with the French toast with Chorizo. Intrigued by the unconventional combination, we found a sweetly toasted brioche topped with caramelised red onion jam and grilled chorizo. The clash of flavours on our tastebuds somehow came together nicely for a satisfying brunch. A side of smashed avocado and a lightly charred lime bit also gave it a lovely tang when squeezed over the top of the dish.

With a mix of regular flavours and new experiments on the huge blackboard menu wall, we decided to give the burger of the week a try. The weekly special featured a beef pattie, chili cheese fries (for that extra carby goodness), bacon bits, mustard mayo, lettuce and tomato all on a milk bun. It was a juicy, messy burger that ticked all the boxes for us and left us incredibly full.

Bangbang is a hidden gem offering some unique dishes mixed in with crowd pleasing burgers, making it a great spot for all locals and visitors (now also with delivery service as a bonus!)
