Grounds of the City, Town Hall

From the roaring success that is the Grounds of Alexandria, comes the cityslicker version which is every bit as swinging as its original – Grounds of the City packs in a charming 1920s style Parisian decor with cosy booths to create a unique ambience right in the middle of the Sydney CBD at the Galeries Victoria.

We started off our dinner with the Spring Bay Mussel Gratin, which came baked with a rich topping of seaweed butter and brioche crumb.

We also went for their special risotto of the day, which featured a blend of wild mushrooms, black truffle, gorgonzola cheese and chive jus for a creamy main course that tantalised our tastebuds with the intense flavours.

In terms of protein, we decided to try their Cowra Free Roaming Lamb Rump which was cooked medium rare and served with grilled zucchini, and a fresh mint and chervil yoghurt sauce that helped enhance the chewy meat.

For our other main, we chose the Panko Crumbed Gurnard Fillets which were crunchy on the outside and flaky on the inside, nice when dipped in the chunky tartare sauce it was served with and eaten with the shoestring fries, for a gourmet take on fish and chips.

The ambience and gorgeous decor alone is enough of a reason to visit Grounds of the City, ironically because the atmosphere feels so far away from the Sydney CBD. The menu on offer is solid, though nothing too adventurous and should satisfy most palates with the variety of flavours available.
