Brewristas, Darlinghurst

With a name like Brewristas, you know that this edgy cafe is serious about their coffee and you’ll find it on offer here in several forms – from the silky smooth cappuccinos through to the intriguing Brewristas Brain Brew (a.k.a. BBB drink) which is a cold brew that contains MCT oil derived from coconuts and is proudly on display when you walk in through the door.

Cappuccino, $3.5

For lunch, we took a seat at their communal table downstairs and tucked into a few of their dishes from their carefully curated Vietnamese influenced brunch menu – starting with the delicious Brewristas Banh Mi which we got with their flavoursome Lemongrass and Chilli Free Range Chicken in the crunchy baguette along with shallot, chilli and house-made pickles for a satisfying feed.

The other more substantial option on the brunch menu is the Lunch in a Bowl which is basically a Vietnamese vermicelli noodle salad bowl, served with a generous amount of tasty fried onions on top of plenty of fresh herbs and flavourful chunks of our chosen protein which was the Honey, Shallot and Black Pepper Free Range Pork.

There’s also an all-day breakfast menu and our friend went with their Avocado Smash which put a twist on the classic Australian breakfast dish by serving it up with pretty snow pea sprouts and edamame beans for an Asian influenced rendition. We balanced out the healthiness with a side bowl of not-so-healthy but oh-so-addictive chunky chips served with sriracha mayo. These chips were surprisingly some of the best chips we’ve had in Sydney – Brewristas have managed to pack in a lot of flavour to each crispy bite of these chips and our group devoured them in no time.

Avocado Smash, $16 and side of Chips, $7

On the other end of the spectrum, we also enjoyed their take on a Bacon and Egg Roll, with the perfect curl of bacon sandwiched in a soft bun with creamy scrambled eggs for a gourmet version of a hangover treat.

On first impressions, this cosy corner cafe doesn’t look like it has a big footprint from the outside, but has a spacious downstairs area that is nice for group catch ups and a solid breakfast and brunch menu to keep your tastebuds happy as you sip on their signature caffeine options.
